I recently spoke with Cheryl Janke, founder and CEO of Jet Repair Anywhere, an online database that aims to connect aircraft owners and operators with the maintenance services they need -- close by, and as quickly as possible.

An A&P mechanic herself, Janke says she developed Jet Repair Anywhere out of her own frustration with not being able to find service providers when and where she needed them. Her varied and colorful career in the industry has included working for Universal Studios, overseeing business jet interior completions in Russia and Montreal, and serving as director of maintenance for Prime Jet, among other air charter companies. At one time, Janke says she was responsible for 18 aircraft.

...I can see how that might get hectic. Her aim with Jet Repair Anywhere is to give owners/operators complete access to FAA-approved service providers in their area, wherever they may be and whatever they may require. Right now, the database contains about 5,500 listings, ranging from directory information to details on specialty shops, full-service facilities and documented, onsite-audited and approved facilities.

Fees for having your company listed vary, depending on the amount of information you want listed, Janke said. Owners/operators with fewer than 3 aircraft can get access for $900/year, and those with four or more -- $1,500/year. However, that $1,500 even applies to large charter operations with hundreds of aircraft, Janke says.

Jet Repair Anywhere also has a couple of new features in the works, including an online quote system and an interactive mechanics' forum.
